Meghalaya Police have stepped up efforts to trace the accused in a rape case registered at Laitumkhrah Police Station. The police say they have issued lookout notices across the country to help locate the accused and complete the investigation.
Speaking to reporters, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the notices started with Mizoram and were later expanded to all states. He said a special team has been formed to trace and arrest the accused. Police have also recorded the complainant’s statement as part of the case.

Search coordinated with Mizoram Police
The SP said investigators learned during the probe that there may be more victims. He stated that while some alleged victims have been spoken to over the phone, they have been asked to come forward in person. Police want them to record their statements and lodge formal FIRs.
On social media claims that there are eight victims, Syiem said the number is not confirmed. He urged that such posts should not be treated as facts at this stage, and said police can only verify whether more victims exist after people come forward and their statements are examined.
Priority is arrest; charge sheet after apprehension
Responding to speculation that the accused may have fled to Aizawl, the SP said Meghalaya Police have been coordinating closely with Mizoram Police. He said the Aizawl Police searched the accused’s residence, but the accused was not found there. The SP said the accused has not gone to Aizawl.
Police said the immediate priority is to arrest the accused. Syiem added that once the accused is apprehended and additional facts are gathered, the police will proceed with filing the charge sheet. The investigation also continues into all information that has come up during questioning.
