A State BJP delegation visited landslide-affected areas in the Tumin-Lingi constituency to assess the damage and interact with residents. The team, led by State general secretary Dinesh Nepal, visited Middle Lingi, Sumsi, Maidam, Upper Lingi and adjoining villages under the direction of BJP Sikkim president D.R. Thapa.
Road connectivity work underway after party appeal

During the visit, residents shared information that road restoration efforts were mobilised after an appeal made by BJP Sikkim on 3 July 2026. The party delegation was informed that authorities under PMGSY and the Public Works Department (PWD) have mobilised six JCB excavators at different locations to restore road connectivity.
The delegation welcomed the deployment and said it expects restoration work to move faster to bring relief. People in Sumsi Ward also highlighted community support for repair work. Villagers and Panchayat members reportedly worked voluntarily for about seven days to clear and rebuild a damaged stretch, and they said nearly three kilometres of road have already been made motorable through collective efforts.
Villagers seek district administration presence and reopening of a key stretch
Despite the visible work on parts of the route, residents expressed disappointment that, after around ten days since the disaster, no senior official from the district administration had visited the area to assess hardships. They urged the administration to strengthen its presence during such emergencies.
Residents from the Sumsi–Maidam area also reported continued hardship because of a road closure at Sukha Khola. They said the closure has disrupted transportation and the movement of essential supplies. Villagers appealed for heavy machinery and faster restoration to reopen this road link as early as possible.
As part of relief activities, the BJP delegation distributed essential relief materials to families staying at relief camps in Darakharka and Upper Lingi. The delegation also assured residents that it would continue to raise their concerns with the appropriate authorities until normalcy returns.
