The District Collector of Pakyong, along with senior police officers and other department representatives, inspected the landslide-affected stretch on National Highway-10 near the 20th Mile at Bardang. The visit took place after continuous rainfall led to fresh instability in the area and disruptions to movement on the highway.

Officials briefed the inspection team on the extent of the damage. Large boulders, along with mud and debris, accumulated at the site and affected vehicular movement. The team reviewed emergency restoration steps and ongoing debris clearance being carried out by NHIDCL in coordination with the Roads and Bridges Department.

During the review, the District Collector asked for details on the deployment of machinery, work schedules, and how debris disposal was being managed. She also sought information on damage to essential infrastructure, including power lines, and directed executing agencies to increase machinery and manpower to speed up restoration while following safety protocols at the site.

Monitoring committee and traffic regulation

To address not only the immediate damage but also the longer-term risk, the Collector instructed agencies to examine slope stabilisation measures. This includes installing wire mesh and protective barriers at vulnerable stretches. A coordination committee was also planned, with engineers from the Roads and Bridges Department, NHIDCL, and the Public Works Department, along with the SDM and police officials, to oversee restoration and ensure daily reporting.

Officials also reviewed traffic management. The police were directed to regulate movement near the affected portion, prevent congestion, and facilitate diversions through designated alternate routes until traffic returns to normal. The inspection team decided to install floodlights at the work site to support restoration activities during night hours and agreed to keep continuous monitoring of the vulnerable stretch as weather conditions remain a concern.
