Rotary Club of Gangtok South begins new administrative year with 19th installation ceremony
Rotary Club of Gangtok South held its 19th Installation Ceremony in Gangtok, with leadership for the 2026–27 Rotary year installed and an annual report for 2025
The Rotary Club of Gangtok South officially began its new administrative year with its 19th Installation Ceremony held at a local hotel in Gangtok on Thursday evening. The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, Rotarians, and well-wishers, marking both a review of past work and the welcome of incoming leadership.
Leadership transitions for Rotary year 2026–27
The programme featured Sonam Norgay Lachungpa, Chairman of the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, as the chief guest. Amit Patro, Chief Editor of a local news outlet, attended as the guest of honour. In the absence of outgoing club president Rtn. Bhaichung Lepcha, vice president Rtn. Bina Sharma called the meeting to order and welcomed the dignitaries.
The club then completed the formal transition for the Rotary Year 2026–27. Rtn. Gopal Basnett assumed office as the new club president. Rtn. Prakash Sunda S was installed as the club secretary.
New executive committee and key roles
Along with the president and secretary, the club’s executive committee includes Rtn. Bina Sharma as vice president. Rtn. Tarun Sarda has been appointed joint secretary, and Rtn. Mala Rana Patro will serve as treasurer. The incoming leadership also outlined a commitment to strengthen the club’s work through fellowship, sustainable development, and community service aligned with Rotary International’s ideals.
Before the passing of the gavel, secretary Rtn. Prakash Sunda S presented the Annual Report for the Rotary Year 2025–26. The report highlighted work carried out through strategic community development projects, local youth empowerment programmes, and humanitarian initiatives.
The ceremony also included the induction of two local citizens into Rotary’s global fellowship. Sunila Verma and Bikash Gadaily were welcomed as new Rotaractors into the club’s expanding presence in Sikkim.
