A coordination meeting held in Gangtok reviewed arrangements for the Yongthoom – Open Market during Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebrations, including stall allotment
A third coordination meeting of the Tendong Lho Rum Faat Celebration Committee 2026 was held in Gangtok to review preparations for the Yongthoom – Open Market. The meeting was convened as per directions from MLA-cum-president of the committee, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, and took place at the mini conference hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gangtok.
The meeting was chaired by Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary (Gangtok District) to the Chief Minister. During the discussions, the officials reviewed how the market will be organized for the pre-celebration period of 4 to 7 August, with the event planned at Ridge Park, Gangtok.
Stalls to be shared across all six districts
One of the key decisions made in the meeting was the allocation of 30 stalls for entrepreneurs. The plan includes participation from across Sikkim, with five entrepreneurs representing each of the six districts. Organizers said the structure will offer a common platform for local producers, artisans, innovators, and small business owners to exhibit and market their products.
This year, the open market will follow a theme connected to Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged traditional Lepcha musical instruments. The market is set to highlight Puntong Palit and Tungbuk, aiming to support awareness about indigenous art, craftsmanship, and traditional knowledge.
Focus on entrepreneurship and cultural identity
Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha said the Yongthoom concept aligns with the Chief Minister’s initiative of “One Family, One Entrepreneurship.” He noted that the initiative is intended to encourage self-employment, strengthen rural livelihoods, and improve direct market access for local enterprises.
The meeting also covered practical aspects such as the overall layout, branding, cultural presentation, visitor experience, and coordination among participating organizations. Executive members of Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Tarzum, Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Ong Shezum, and Renjyong Mutanchi Ringmom Kurmom attended and extended support for the event as part of the upcoming Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebrations.
