Saitual Police seize 868 grams of suspected heroin near Keifang; 2 held

Saitual Police in Mizoram seized 868 grams of suspected heroin from a vehicle near Keifang during a joint operation with 34 Assam Rifles, police said. The recovery was made on the outskirts of Keifang on August 13.

According to police, the suspected heroin was packed in 73 soap cases. It was recovered from an Ashok Leyland vehicle with registration number NL-06-AA-3077.

Two people arrested in the case

Police said the driver and a handyman of the vehicle were taken into custody. They were identified as Monwar Singh Barbhuiya and Abdul Kayum Munna, both from Cachar district in Assam. The seizure case was registered at Saitual Police Station as Case No. 90/2026 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police stated that the case has been registered under Sections 21(c), 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act. They said further investigation is underway into the source and trail of the suspected drugs.

Recent drug recoveries in Saitual

Police said this seizure is part of a series of drug recoveries reported in Saitual district in recent days. On August 10, a special team of Saitual Police Station seized 292 grams of suspected heroin, packed in 25 soap cases, valued at about ₹58.4 lakh. That recovery was made during an operation at Keifang and police identified the alleged source person as Vungngailun, a resident of Henglep in Manipur. Police said he was travelling as a passenger in a vehicle coming from Manipur towards Aizawl.

Earlier, on August 9, Ngopa Police Station and 34 Assam Rifles conducted a separate operation during random checking at Tuisa Road in Kawlbem village. Police reported the seizure of 18.52 kg of suspected ganja valued at about ₹9.26 lakh. A person named Samuel Lalruatpuia, from Kawlbem in Saitual district, was identified in that case, which was registered under Sections 20(b)(ii)(B) and 25 of the NDPS Act.
