CM attends Independence Day pre-celebration and football matches at Mamring

Chief Minister and Rhenock MLA Prem Singh Tamang-Golay attended the Independence Day pre-celebration and football semi-finals at Government Senior Secondary School, Mamring, in Pakyong district. The programme was organised by the Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC), Rhenock constituency, as part of the events marking the 80th Independence Day.

Speaking to the gathering, the Chief Minister extended greetings for the pre-celebration and highlighted the meaning of the occasion. He recalled Sikkim’s journey as the 22nd State of India and said the state has made progress over the decades in different sectors, while also thanking the people for their support towards development.

Focus on Pakyong’s development and public services

The Chief Minister also discussed developments in Pakyong district after its establishment. He mentioned the District Hospital, a new district administrative centre building and the Chief Minister’s Model School at Assam Lingzey. He said the government is working on initiatives linked to urban amenities, healthcare, tourism infrastructure and road connectivity in the district.

He further urged elected representatives and public representatives to work together towards making Pakyong a model district. On state health and welfare efforts, he spoke about assistance for patients who need support. He also said that from 2027, the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana would be expanded to benefit more people.

Programme includes Tiranga Yatra and school and security displays

As part of the Independence Day events, the Chief Minister informed the gathering about a state-level Tiranga Yatra scheduled for August 14 and appealed to the public to participate. Earlier, the school principal Radha Sharma presented the school vision, sharing the institution’s achievements and future priorities.

A felicitation ceremony was held during which the Chief Minister was honoured by the Rhenock Tourism Development Society along with IDCC 2026, Rhenock constituency, for contributions toward tourism development, local livelihoods and community welfare. Cultural performances included Swasti Bachan by Sanskrit Pathsala, Pacheykhani, a band display and tattoo drill by the 69 Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and a musical performance by Nepal Idol finalist Arpana Acharya.

The programme also featured the second semi-final of the 80th Independence Day constituency-level open football tournament. Real Aritar defeated Rangers-19 with a score of 3-2. In the Inter-School constituency-level Under-14 boys football tournament final, PM Shri Dikling Senior Secondary School beat Rorathang Senior Secondary School 4-1.
