CAP Sikkim president wraps up two-day constituency visit in Namcheybong

Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim president Ganesh Rai concluded a two-day visit to Namcheybong Assembly Constituency with an Assembly Constituency Executive Council (ACEC)-level meeting at Mangthang, Sumin Linchey GPU. The visit followed earlier interactions across local areas, where the party president met residents, students and the general public.

According to a party press release, Rai began the trip on August 12 by meeting people at Assam Lingzey and taking part in public interactions. During the visit, Deependra Sharma, a sitting panchayat member from Gairigoan ward under Assam Lingzey GPU, said he joined the Citizen Action Party-Sikkim.

Meetings with residents and students

On the second day, Rai started his morning by interacting with local dairy farmers and visiting a milk collection centre. The release says he listened to the concerns and challenges faced by dairy farmers and shared CAP Sikkim’s policy vision, including its focus on strengthening the farming community and rural economy.

In the afternoon, the ACEC-level meeting was held at Mangthang Ward, Sumin Linchey GPU. It was attended by ACEC president Severine Rai, vice-presidents Deependra Rai, Sumati Chettri, Karma Tshering Bhutia, Jorbu Lepcha and Shri Ongden Lepcha, along with party spokesperson Albert Gurung and Reform Call chief coordinator Mani Chettri. Leaders also present included Pakyong District general secretaries Yogesh Khatiwara and Bikash Adhikari, and the Pakyong District Women’s Council president Karma Dichen Bhutia.

Organisational report and issues raised

Severine Rai, described as the 2024 Assembly election candidate and ACEC president, presented the organisational report of the constituency. The meeting also included addresses by Mani Chettri, Karma Dichen Bhutia, Madan Rai and Tashi Bhutia, who highlighted issues and challenges faced by people in Namcheybong. The release also states that Karna Bahadur Chettri and Buddhiman Rai from Lower Sumin joined CAP Sikkim during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Rai said the party remains committed to meaningful transformation for the lives of ordinary Sikkimese people. He also said CAP Sikkim is gaining public support across the state and that people in Namcheybong are looking toward the party for an alternative government. The release adds that Rai expressed confidence about CAP mounting a strong challenge to the incumbent SKM government and forming a pro-Sikkim government in the 2029 Assembly elections. He reiterated that strengthening the party organisation at the grassroots is a key priority, with the president visiting constituencies across Sikkim to meet people directly.
