The Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD) held a meeting to review and deliberate on guidelines for the digital empanelment of media organisations in Sikkim. The meeting took place at the conference hall in Soochna Bhawan, with a discussion focused on how eligible digital media platforms can be assessed and included.

IPRD Chairman Ashit Rai chaired the meeting. It was attended by Press Secretary to the Chief Minister Yougan Tamang, IPRD Secretary Annapurna Alley, and Director IPRD Sunil Kumar Mothay. Representatives from media bodies were also present, including the President of the Press Club of Sikkim, Samir Hang Subba, and the President of the Journalist Union of Sikkim, Prabin Khaling. Executive members from both associations and officials from the department also participated.
The participants held detailed discussions on the proposed framework for empanelment. The focus was on creating a clear, transparent and structured process for empanelment of digital media organisations. The meeting also reviewed the criteria and requirements that digital media organisations would need to meet to be considered for empanelment with the department.
Guidelines aim for credibility and better access
Beyond the selection process, the meeting discussed what empanelment could mean for Sikkim-based digital media platforms. Officials and representatives highlighted potential benefits such as greater recognition, wider outreach, and more participation in government communication and publicity initiatives. They also stressed the need for professional standards, credibility, transparency, and responsible journalism as digital reporting continues to evolve.
The deliberations covered how to ensure the guidelines remain practical and inclusive, while matching the changing dynamics of digital journalism. The initiative is intended to improve coordination between the IPRD and digital media organisations and support a more organised and accountable digital media ecosystem in the state.
