Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) national president Conrad K Sangma arrived in Imphal on Friday for a two-day visit to Manipur. During the visit, he inaugurated the NPP’s newly constructed state office and is scheduled to take part in the NPP Annual Convention.
The inauguration took place at Mercy Lane, Mantripukhri. Sangma was present along with the Manipur unit president Dr Lorho S Pfoze, Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, NPP MLAs, party office-bearers, and party workers. The event focused on the completion of the new office ahead of the party’s next major programme in the state.
NPP office inaugurated ahead of annual convention
After the inauguration, Sangma addressed party workers and said he was satisfied with the timely completion of the office. He thanked the NPP Manipur unit for ensuring the construction was finished as planned. He also said the new office would help strengthen the party’s organisational network and support grassroots activities in Manipur.
Visit includes review of party work and meetings
Speaking to reporters at Imphal Airport, Sangma said his trip aims at reviewing the NPP’s organisational activities in the state. He added that he would meet party leaders, legislators, and frontal organisations. He also indicated that he would interact with people across Manipur to express solidarity and understand their concerns, describing these engagements as useful for identifying ways to improve the situation in the state.
The NPP Annual Convention is scheduled for Saturday at the MSFDS complex in Imphal. With the office inauguration on the first day of the visit, the programme sets the stage for the party’s convention-level discussions and planning.
During questions from reporters, Sangma also said that any response to the recent examination paper leak protests should be based on a thorough investigation. He stated that responsibility should be fixed in a way that ensures accountability. On calls for the resignation of the Union Education Minister, he said decisions should follow the findings of a fair and comprehensive investigation.
