Gangtok Thakurbari Management Committee holds Annual General Meeting
The Gangtok Thakurbari Management Committee held its Annual General Meeting to review activities, present annual reports and audited accounts, and discuss plans
The Gangtok Thakurbari Management Committee convened its Annual General Meeting on Sunday with committee members, devotees and guests in attendance. The programme included an official review of the committee’s work and discussion of future plans for the Thakurbari.
Guests and remembrance during the meeting
The meeting was attended by MLA Delay Namgyal Barfungpa as the chief guest. Gangtok Municipal Corporation Mayor Tshering Palden Bhutia, Deputy Mayor Sara Lama and councillors were also present. The session began with a one-minute silence to remember late Kiran Rasaily and late Rameshwar Lal, followed by tributes to their service to the Gangtok Thakurbari community.
As part of the proceedings, the General Secretary, Pawan Mittal, presented the Annual Report. The report covered the committee’s activities and initiatives carried out during the previous year. Treasurer Anil Gupta then presented the financial statement and audited accounts, giving members an overview of the committee’s financial status.
Plans, accountability and temple upkeep
An open house discussion followed the presentations, where members shared their views and suggestions on issues linked to the committee’s functioning and the development of the Thakurbari. Committee President Prawin Gurung explained the election process and described the AGM as a mandatory step meant to ensure accountability and transparency. He urged members to work together for the betterment and development of the Thakurbari Mandir.
Gurung also highlighted waste management as a responsibility of every individual and appealed for efforts to keep the temple environment clean. He said the committee will continue to focus on good governance and on preserving the cultural and religious heritage connected with the Thakurbari, along with encouraging wider community participation.
Speaking at the meeting, MLA Delay Namgyal Barfungpa described the Gangtok Thakurbari Mandir as a key landmark of Gangtok. He stressed collective efforts for proper upkeep and long-term maintenance, and called for unity and discipline in the committee’s work. He urged people to work with an attitude of “us” rather than “me,” and to rise above community identities for the welfare and development of the Thakurbari.
