Rhenock Educational Society marks 36 years with foundation day celebrations in Tadong

Rhenock Educational Society, a long-running education initiative in Sikkim, celebrated its 36th foundation day on Tuesday. The programme was held at Harkamaya College of Education and Damber Singh College at 6th Mile, Tadong.

The two colleges are run by the Rhenock Educational Society. The society also operates the Himalayan Institute of Pharmacy (HPI) at Majhitar near Rangpo, extending its education work beyond college campuses in the state.

Sikkim University Registrar Pratap Keshari Dash attended the function as the chief guest. Former bureaucrat C P Dewan was present as the guest of honour. The event also saw participation from Dr H P Chhetri, founder director of all three institutions under the society, along with the principals of the colleges.

Harkamaya College of Education principal Prof Rajesh Singh, Himalayan Institute of Pharmacy principal Dr N R Bhuyan, and Damber Singh College principal Dr Arati Chettri were also part of the celebrations. Faculty members, students, and invited guests joined the event.

Focus on quality education and plantation on campus

In his address, the chief guest highlighted the role of educational institutions in shaping future citizens. He congratulated the society for completing 36 years of service to the education sector in Sikkim and encouraged students to keep making steady efforts toward their goals.

On the occasion, the Rhenock Educational Society expressed gratitude to current and former faculty and students, along with others who have supported its journey over the years. The society also said it will continue to provide quality education while keeping pace with new innovations and technology.

To mark the milestone, saplings were planted on the college campus by the chief guest, the guest of honour, and the founder director.

The society was established in 1990 with the aim of spreading education among the masses of Sikkim. Himalayan Institute of Pharmacy was set up the same year. Damber Singh College was established in 1994, and Harkamaya College of Education came up later in 2003, named after the late father and late mother of Dr H P Chhetri.
