Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026: Sixth batch returns to Gangtok via Nathu La route

The sixth batch of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) 2026, travelling via the Nathu La route, returned successfully to Gangtok on July 30. After their return, a felicitation programme was organised by the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) to mark the completion of the pilgrimage.

The programme was attended by Sonam Norgay Lachungpa, Chairman of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, who was the chief guest. Lukendra Rasaily, Chairman of STDC, attended as the guest of honour. Liaison Officers Ajay Kumar Yadav and Shiv Shankar, along with STDC officials, departmental officers and other stakeholders linked to the Yatra, also took part in the event.

According to the information shared at the programme, four support staff from Sikkim accompanied the pilgrims during the Yatra. The team was led by Pempa Doma Bhutia, Assistant Director of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department. The staff assisted with cooking, food management and other support services aimed at helping the yatris during the journey.

During an interaction session, returning yatris expressed appreciation for the arrangements and hospitality provided by STDC from New Delhi to Nathu La. They said the Yatra was planned and carried out in a way that made the trip safe and comfortable, and that they were satisfied with transportation, accommodation and food. The batch also highlighted the guidance and coordination provided by Gyurmie Yousal, Principal Chief Executive Officer, STDC, and Vijay Thapa, General Manager, STDC.

Appreciation for on-ground support and certificate distribution

The yatris specifically mentioned STDC teams stationed at 18th Mile and Hangu Lake for their timely assistance. A special mention was made of Gyanu Pradhan, a retired principal and the only female pilgrim in the batch, for completing the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra successfully. As part of the recognition, the chief guest distributed completion certificates to all pilgrims and presented traditional Khadas.

In his address, Lukendra Rasaily congratulated the pilgrims and urged them to share their experiences to promote Sikkim’s hospitality, tourism and spiritual heritage. Sonam Norgay Lachungpa said he would brief the Chief Minister about the services provided and described the STDC team’s work as helping project a positive image of the state. The programme ended with prayers for the well-being of all pilgrims, who are scheduled to leave for their hometowns from Bagdogra Airport.
