Landslides in Nagaland’s Mon kill four, leave five missing as heavy rain damages houses
Heavy rainfall triggered landslides in Mon district, Nagaland, killing four people and leaving five missing. Rescue and relief efforts are underway.
Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have killed at least four people in Nagaland’s Mon district. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) said three women and one man were among the victims whose bodies have been recovered so far.
Five other people are reported missing. Search operations are underway to locate the missing persons after the slides affected areas including Naginimora, where several people were also injured.
NSDMA monitors disaster and coordinates rescue
NSDMA Secretary Sentiwapang Aier said the landslides were caused by extreme weather conditions and that heavy rain has led to damage across Mon district and other parts of the state. The damage includes harm to houses and disruption to infrastructure, as rescue teams work in affected locations.
NSDMA, through the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), is monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with district authorities. District agencies are carrying out on-ground response with support from state forces and volunteers, including the District Administration, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland Police, Assam Rifles, and local volunteers.
State leaders express grief and announce support
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed grief over the tragedy. In his message, he said the state government is closely monitoring the situation and that NSDMA, district administration, DDMA, SDRF, police, Assam Rifles and the local community are working on search and rescue. He also said ex-gratia assistance will be provided to the families of those who lost their lives and relief will be extended to those affected.
Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished recovery for the injured. He highlighted the efforts of the district administration, NSDMA, SDRF, Nagaland Police, Assam Rifles, and medical personnel, and urged people to follow official advisories as adverse weather continues.
