Mizoram health minister visits Presidency University Bengaluru, urges students to stay away from drugs and use tech wisely

Mizoram Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii visited Presidency University Bengaluru as the new academic session began. During the visit, she interacted with students and encouraged them to approach higher education with dedication and integrity.

The minister was welcomed by the university’s leadership team, including Chancellor Dr Nissar Ahmed, Vice Chairperson Dr Nafeesa Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Dr S.J. Thiruvengadam and Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Vidya Shankar Shetty. After the meeting, she addressed students from different disciplines and spoke about what the start of a new academic phase can mean.

Education as character-building

Lalrinpuii congratulated freshers for beginning their journey and said senior students should set a positive example. She described higher education as more than earning a degree. In her remarks, she said it is a period that helps shape character, builds confidence and supports students in becoming responsible citizens.

She also urged students to lead balanced and responsible lives. Her message included staying away from drugs and violence, and avoiding other harmful influences. She highlighted the need for students to keep their focus clear and their choices positive.

With technology playing a bigger role in everyday life, the minister called for greater digital awareness. She encouraged students to use technology as a tool for learning and personal growth, rather than letting it become a distraction. Lalrinpuii further linked success to perseverance, discipline and consistent hard work, based on her experiences in public service.

Support for students from the Northeast

Along with speaking to students, Lalrinpuii toured the university campus. She said she appreciated the presence of a diverse student community and pointed to the inclusive environment and support provided to students from the Northeast who are studying in Bengaluru. She also urged young people to contribute not only to their personal goals but also toward society and nation-building.
