Mizoram Youth Congress attacks CM over ILP and Mizoram Accord remarks

The Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) has criticised Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s recent remarks related to the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and the Mizoram Accord. The party’s youth wing said the comments could have negative implications for the state and its people.
Claims on ILP withdrawal and the nature of the Accord
MPYCC’s criticism follows Lalduhoma’s address at the Mizoram Law College Freshers’ Social and Felicitation programme on July 31. In the speech, the Chief Minister said the ILP system could be withdrawn by the Central Government if it chose to do so. He also described what is commonly called the Mizoram Accord as not an agreement between Mizoram and India, but as an understanding between the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and a political party in Mizoram.
In a statement, MPYCC said it is concerned that the Chief Minister’s ILP-related remarks may weaken public confidence in one of the state’s key constitutional safeguards. The youth wing linked this concern to ongoing anxieties in Mizoram over illegal immigration.
Concerns about governance and social media allegations
MPYCC also raised issues beyond the ILP and Accord remarks. It accused Lalduhoma of failing to deliver enough on issues affecting Mizoram during more than two years in office. The youth wing said the state needs a government focused on policy implementation rather than making controversial public statements.
The committee further alleged that during Lalduhoma’s visit to the United States, he shared on his social media accounts that he had received a US Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. It said the post was later removed after questions were raised about the claim.
MPYCC also accused the Chief Minister of presenting the security situation involving the Arakan Army in a way that, according to the youth wing, did not sufficiently reflect the interests of Mizoram and the Mizo people. It added that the Chief Minister’s remarks about India’s security situation during the trip attracted criticism from some parts of the national media.
