Chujachen constituency MLA Puran Kumar Gurung conducted a joint inspection of a monsoon-damaged PMGSY road from Tshalamthang to Lower Tareythang. The road section was affected by heavy rainfall and linked issues including settlement and river bank erosion in the area.

The inspection team focused on identifying the stretches impacted by the monsoon. The road in this belt helps connect the habitations of Tareythang and Bering, so restoration work is closely linked to daily movement and access for residents.

Clearance and temporary traffic restoration

After reviewing the site conditions, the Minister directed the concerned department to deploy manpower and machinery for debris clearance. He also asked for steps to restore traffic on priority so that movement of vehicles can resume in the short term.

As part of the temporary plan, the Minister instructed that stone soling with mixed filling be taken up after clearance work is completed. He also linked the approach to current river conditions, noting that ongoing monsoon conditions have raised the river water level and affect work safety.

Protective fencing planned after monsoon

According to the directions shared during the visit, protective fencing along the riverside would be taken up after the monsoon season ends. This is intended to reduce erosion risk when water levels drop and execution becomes safer.

Residents from Lower Tareythang raised concerns and requested permanent restoration of the damaged road stretches at the earliest. The inspection concluded with the public expressing gratitude for the prompt site visit and for assurances on remedial measures.

The inspection included officials from departments such as DE, RDD, PMGSY, Nima Tashi Dopthupa, DPO Pakyong, TR Chettri, and RO/AD Pakyong, Kiran Chettri, along with representatives from DDMA and the Divisional Engineer (RDD) and local residents.
