Modi asks society to guide children after Jantar Mantar incident, says he has forgiven them

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he wants compassion and understanding for children who allegedly used abusive language against him and his late mother during an incident at Jantar Mantar. In a video message, he referred to what happened as something both the country and the world saw in public.

Modi called the children “misguided” and said the language used was not something that should exist in a civilized society. He also acknowledged that people in India felt angry after the incident.

Forgiveness over anger, he says

The Prime Minister said he did not want to reply with anger. He told citizens that children can make mistakes, and childhood is also a time to learn and improve. He argued that punishment alone will not fix the problem.

He said that taking the children to court, starting legal action, or humiliating them would not bring a solution. Instead, he asked society to guide them and give them a chance to move forward. Modi said society should accept his view and treat the incident in a constructive way.

Analogy on learning and belonging

To explain his point, Modi used an analogy about a person accidentally biting their tongue. He said this does not harm the teeth because both belong to the same body. He linked this idea to his view that children are part of the nation’s family and deserve guidance, not rejection.

Modi also described the incident as a “cultural shock,” and he noted that the alleged abuse involved young girls. While saying this language was wrong, he stressed that the response should focus on correcting behaviour rather than condemning the children as people.

He closed his message by inviting the children to work alongside the country. Modi asked them to learn from their mistakes, pursue their dreams, and contribute positively to India’s future.
