Namchi hosts coordination meeting for 2nd Aama Samman Diwas preparations

A second coordination meeting for the upcoming 2nd Aama Samman Diwas was held on Saturday at Bhaichung Stadium in Namchi District. The meeting focused on reviewing how preparations are progressing and on improving coordination among departments involved in organising the programme.

Honouring mothers through a Sikkim-specific initiative

Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Raj Kumari Thapa said Aama Samman Diwas is a special initiative linked to the Chief Minister. She said the day is dedicated to honour mothers and is celebrated exclusively in Sikkim. She also noted that the observance was introduced in 2025, with an aim to recognise the contributions and sacrifices of mothers and to promote their dignity, empowerment and self-reliance.

Thapa added that the event’s success depends on collective responsibility. She urged all stakeholders to work together, spread awareness about the celebration and ensure that mothers taking part receive proper guidance and support.

Department-wise updates and cleanliness push

Urban Development and Food & Civil Supplies Minister Bhoj Raj Rai thanked the Chief Minister for dedicating a special day to honour mothers in the state. He stressed unity and asked everyone to go beyond their assigned roles where needed. Rai also called for respectful and comfortable treatment of mothers during the programme and requested that the venue and its surroundings remain clean, with participants avoiding littering and using responsible waste disposal practices.

Rural Development Minister Arun Kumar Upreti reviewed how responsibilities are being handled by different departments. He directed departments to hold internal meetings and develop ideas to support the event. He also said review meetings will be held in the coming days, when each department will present updates on progress, and he urged close coordination for a smooth celebration.

Other officials also took part in the meeting. Ministers and department representatives acknowledged the initiative and said that preparatory work has already started. The gathering was also informed about the Lucky Selfie with Aama campaign planned during 2–6 August, where participants will take a selfie with their mother and register through a designated online link. Winners will be selected through a software-based system, and prizes include Rs 2,00,000 for first place, Rs 1,50,000 for second, Rs 1,00,000 for third, and seven consolation prizes of Rs 20,000 each. The prize distribution is scheduled for 10 August during the celebration. The meeting was attended by ministers, MLAs, advisors, district-level representatives, and members of the organising committee.
