Noney sets up Highway Patrol Team to improve safety on NH-37

The Noney district administration in Manipur has formed a Highway Patrol Team to improve safety and security for people travelling along National Highway-37. The move aims to reduce incidents that can disrupt travel, including extortion and other unlawful activities.

The team was set up on the directions of Noney Deputy Commissioner Vidhyamari Sridhar. The district administration said the Highway Patrol Team includes an Executive Magistrate from the district administration, officials of the Manipur Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). It also includes representatives linked to NHIDCL and from road contracting agencies working on construction and maintenance on NH-37.

According to the administration, the patrols will be regular and will include inspections along the highway. The focus will be on preventing illegal extortion, addressing issues raised by commuters, and supporting better coordination among the agencies involved in highway work and traffic management.

Road work and traffic movement to be monitored

The district administration said the patrol team will also monitor the progress and quality of ongoing road maintenance works. It will work to ensure smooth movement of traffic and support the prompt resolution of problems that may affect safe and uninterrupted travel for vehicles using NH-37.

The administration added that all concerned departments and agencies have been directed to work in close coordination. It said the overall objective is to maintain law and order, improve road conditions, and provide a safer travel environment for the public.

Deputy Commissioner Vidhyamari Sridhar appealed to transporters, commercial vehicle operators and members of the public to cooperate with the team. The district administration asked people to report incidents of extortion, intimidation or other unlawful activities to the nearest authority.
