Preparations for Jan Unmukti Diwas and the 2nd Aama Samman Diwas on August 10 at Rangpo Playground are underway, with traffic committees and a new Aama SuvidhaG

Preparations for the 9th Jan Unmukti Diwas and the 2nd Aama Samman Diwas at Rangpo Playground are underway in full swing. As of Saturday, the work for the two programmes was completed to around 80 to 85 per cent, ahead of the event scheduled for August 10.

Arun Upreti, SKM General Secretary and Minister for the Rural Development Department, said the arrangements are being carried out with priority. He told the media that August 10 is an important day for the SKM party and said the programme is expected to be attended by SKM President and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay.

Traffic management plans in place for Rangpo

Upreti said two separate committees have been formed for road and traffic management. The committees will coordinate with the State police and the administration to manage parking and traffic movement during the programme. He also requested attendees to reach the venue on time, asking people to arrive by 9 am to avoid any inconvenience.

He further urged travellers planning to move out of the State or to other districts via Rangpo on August 10 to plan their journeys accordingly. Upreti said a large crowd is expected at the playground and that there may be disruptions along routes during the event period.

NH-10 stretch and volunteer support

As part of traffic planning, efforts are being made to keep the 20th Mile stretch of NH-10 open, with men and machinery deployed at the location. An update on road conditions and vehicular movement on August 10 is planned to be shared in the early morning, for public convenience. The party has also decided to deploy volunteers along traffic routes to assist people and support police and administration in guiding movement. Upreti requested all party members, leaders, beneficiaries and Sarathis to follow instructions from deployed volunteers and personnel.

Separate from the day’s arrangements, Legal Consultant to the Chief Minister, Puja Lamichaney, said construction of the Aama Suvidha Ghar opposite Rangpo Playground is progressing. She said the facility is designed for mothers and young children, including a creche with support from ICDS and Anganwadi workers, for children below eight years of age. Lamichaney said there will also be dedicated spaces for breastfeeding, a powder room, and a diaper-changing room.
