The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has filed a formal representation with the Chief Election Commissioner of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim. The party is seeking independent third-party scrutiny of the hearing and verification process carried out in Soreng District during the Claims and Objections stage of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
The representation is linked to the Daily Bulletin issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim on 29th July 2026. The SDF says the bulletin shows a major statistical difference in Soreng’s hearing outcomes compared with other districts.
Statistical mismatch cited from daily bulletin
According to the bulletin, Soreng District issued 15,049 notices and conducted 3,142 hearings. The SDF points to the reported result that only 2.42% of cases were found not eligible. It contrasts this with figures cited for other districts, including Gyalshing (10.76%), Namchi (31.03%), Gangtok (25.31%), Pakyong (18.49%), and Mangan (17.47%).
The party argues that Soreng shows the lowest proportion of electors found not eligible among the six districts mentioned in the comparison. It also says the deviation is substantial enough that it cannot be explained as a small-sample issue, since the data is based on hearings conducted in Soreng.
Requests for uniform procedures and record preservation
In its submission, the SDF has asked the Election Commission of India to order an independent third-party scrutiny of the hearings and the verification process in Soreng. The party also wants an assessment of whether the prescribed procedures and standards were followed uniformly across districts.
The representation further urges that hearing proceedings, verification reports, supporting documents, and orders by the competent authorities be preserved and made available for independent examination. The SDF said its request is aimed at strengthening public confidence in the integrity of the electoral roll revision process.
