Sikkim Legislative Assembly resumes Budget Session in traditional attire

The Sikkim Legislative Assembly reconvened for its Annual Budget Session 2026–27 with members taking part in a cultural celebration inside the House. On the day of reconvening, lawmakers wore traditional attire representing the State’s main communities, including Lepcha, Bhutia and Nepali.

The Assembly’s cultural display highlighted the idea of unity in diversity that is widely associated with Sikkim’s social fabric. The traditional outfits were presented as a sign of respect for heritage and as a visible reminder that the shared values of different communities continue to shape public life.

Traditional attire reflects community heritage

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay said it was a moment of pride to see diverse cultures represented within the Assembly. He also pointed to the importance of cultural expressions inside civic institutions, saying they reflect collective efforts to carry forward traditions while working toward progress for the State.
