Sikkim officials meet Centre to discuss strengthening animal husbandry, veterinary services

Dr. Sandeep Gurung, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) in the Government of Sikkim, met senior officials of the Government of India in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting focused on coordination to strengthen animal husbandry and veterinary services in the state.
Dr. Gurung met Naresh Pal Gangwar, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying; Varsha Joshi, Additional Secretary (Cattle and Dairy Development); and Rama Shankar Sinha, Additional Secretary (Livestock Health). He was accompanied by Dr. P. T. Bhutia, Additional Director of AH&VS in Sikkim, and Dr. Pratik Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of the Sikkim Livestock Development Board (SLDB).
Courtesy-cum-working meeting for pending issues
According to a press note, the interaction was held as a courtesy-cum-working meeting. It allowed the Sikkim Secretary to formally interact with the central department officials and discuss pending issues related to the AH&VS department in the state.
A broad range of topics was discussed during the meeting. This included ongoing programmes and developmental initiatives, livestock health and dairy development, and the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes. Officials also discussed pending proposals and other areas that require coordination and support from the Centre for progress in Sikkim’s livestock sector.
Both sides held the discussions in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. The senior officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying assured possible support and cooperation to Sikkim in addressing pending matters and in strengthening animal husbandry and veterinary services, as well as dairy-related work in the state.
Coordination reaffirmed
The meeting ended on a positive note. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination and to timely resolution of pending departmental matters, with the aim of supporting the welfare of farmers and livestock owners in Sikkim and overall development of the livestock sector.
