Sikkim Police hands over ₹1 crore insurance cheque to family of deceased 2nd IRBn personnel

A programme was held in the chamber of the Director General of Police (DGP), Sikkim Police, in Gangtok, where a cheque for ₹1 crore was handed over to the family members of a deceased police personnel belonging to the 2nd IRBn.
The handover took place under the police insurance arrangement linked with State Bank of India (SBI), with the DGP and senior police formations present. The programme included participation from the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 2nd IRBn and the legal heirs of the deceased.

SBI–Sikkim Police MoU framework
According to the programme details, the benefit was provided under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Police Salary Package executed between Sikkim Police and SBI on 19.08.2025. The insurance cover became admissible because the deceased personnel was maintaining his salary account with SBI and was covered under the Personal Accidental Insurance benefit under the MoU.
The cheque was formally presented by DGP Sikkim Police Akshay Sachdeva, IPS, along with SBI’s General Manager Teekam Singh Gehlot. SBI officials present included Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy General Manager (B&O) from Siliguri, Alok Kumar Das, Regional Manager of RBO Gangtok, and Furba Tenzing Sherpa, Chief Manager (Deposit and VAS) from RBO Gangtok.
Police and SBI discuss other MoU benefits
During the programme, the DGP extended condolences to the bereaved family and said the police department stands with them. He also highlighted that while the loss cannot be replaced, the settled claim is meant to help address the financial difficulties a family may face.
The DGP also appreciated the initiative taken by the CO, 2nd IRBn, for timely lodging of the claim and support to the legal heir. SBI’s Teekam Singh Gehlot said the bank cannot undo the loss of a family member, but it remains committed to providing financial benefits to affected families under the MoU.
Officials also discussed other benefits available under the MoU, including Term Life Insurance, the SBI Rishtey-Family Savings Account, and add-on covers. The programme concluded with condolences from Inspector General of Police (Checkpost and Armed Police) Hari Chhetri and thanks to the DGP and SBI officials for attending.
