A joint meeting of the Alumni Association and the School Management Committee (SMC) of Hee-Yangthang Senior Secondary School was held in West Sikkim on Saturday, 13 June 2026. The programme was chaired by Area MLA Sudesh Kumar Subba and brought together teachers, parents, alumni members, and officials to review the school’s progress and discuss future development needs.

The meeting began with the welcome of guests, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and a welcome address by SMC president S.M. Hembia. Teachers who supported students to achieve strong results in recent board examinations were honoured with traditional khadas, recognizing their work and contribution to students’ performance.

New alumni committee formed after reports on school progress

Principal Narayan Basnet presented a report on the school’s academic achievements and ongoing work. He also outlined future educational and infrastructural requirements, stating that additional support and resources are needed to strengthen quality of education and facilities. Alumni Association secretary C.S. Uboro shared a report on alumni activities and their engagement with the school.

During the meeting, the existing Alumni Committee was formally dissolved. A new executive committee was constituted, with P.B. Limboo as president, Mahesh Bisht as secretary, and Roshan Bhandari as treasurer. The newly elected team said it will support the school’s development and work to build stronger ties among former students through educational and social initiatives.

Land documents handed over as development projects discussed

A key highlight of the programme was the formal handover of land documents to the school after the land was successfully registered in the institution’s name. The handover took place in the presence of the landowner and representatives of the Alumni Association.

MLA Sudesh Kumar Subba spoke about the State Government’s commitment to educational and infrastructure development for the school. He announced plans for upgradation of the playground, provision of safe drinking water facilities, construction of an auditorium hall, and repair of the RMSA building with government support, and said he would personally assist in improving drinking water facilities. The meeting included participation from Chief Minister’s Press Advisor Birendra Tamling, Additional Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Madhusudan Sharma, and other district and departmental officials. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice Principal Hari Chettri.
