The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has strongly condemned the burning of houses belonging to Meitei families at Kanto Sabal on July 11. In a statement, the organisation said the incident could not be justified and called for accountability through lawful processes.
TIM asks for impartial, transparent investigation

TIM alleged that the arson was carried out by “Kuki mobs” during a rally held under the banner of the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee (LAPC). The organisation said the attack appeared aimed at escalating ethnic tensions and violence across the state.
TIM said it felt sympathy for the affected families and reiterated its commitment to seeking justice through the constitution and the rule of law. It also welcomed statements from the Manipur government that condemned the incident and mentioned arrests made in connection with the case.
Calls for non-violence and protection of Thadou residents
The organisation said the Thadou community rejects violence, arson, intimidation, and other unlawful activity. It urged Thadou residents in the 27 villages under the LAPC near the Leimakhong Military Station in Kangpokpi district to disassociate from Kuki organisations, including the LAPC.
TIM further asked Thadou residents to identify themselves only as Thadou, to register at the TIM website, and to contact TIM for assistance if required. It said innocent Thadou people should not face harassment or threats for the actions of others, adding that criminal responsibility must be decided through due process.
The statement also called for measures to protect Thadou individuals and villages from coercion, intimidation, harassment, and violence, including alleged actions by militant groups and organisations TIM described as proxies. TIM urged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to ensure those responsible for the Kanto Sabal arson are prosecuted, and it requested enhanced security around the Leimakhong Military Station to help restore lasting peace and public confidence.
