Tripura has attracted preliminary investment commitments of about Rs 1.21 lakh crore through 342 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed during the two-day Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026. The state said this figure is higher than its internal target of securing investment proposals worth Rs 1 lakh crore.

Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte said the numbers are based on preliminary assessments. He added that the government will now follow up on the MoUs to help ensure that the proposals are converted into actual projects.

MoUs, registrations and investor participation

Gitte said the event recorded 2,731 registrations. Nearly 2,000 investors participated in the conclave, which was prepared over about six months. According to the government, preparations involved 45 organisations, including state and central government departments and public sector enterprises.

The conclave also saw investors from beyond India. The government statement said participation included companies from across the country and investors from Canada and Dubai. Diplomatic representatives from 10 countries and delegates from Japanese trade bodies were also present.

Foreign engagement and focus on implementation

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha met several foreign representatives separately during the event. He invited them to encourage business delegations to participate in future editions of the conclave. The chief minister also discussed business opportunities with ministers, heads of state-run corporations and senior bureaucrats who held talks with investors across different sectors.

Gitte said the state’s response from industry was supported by recent policy reforms and Tripura’s resource base. He also cited that Tripura has signed around 470 investment agreements over the past four years, leading to investments of nearly Rs 40,000 crore. For the next phase, he said the government’s immediate priority is facilitating the implementation of the fresh proposals announced at the conclave.

The conclave began with virtual addresses by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. Goyal highlighted the importance of sustained development of the Northeast and referred to the region’s growing role under the Centre’s Act East Policy.
