Zomi leaders meet Manipur CM, seek Multi-Utility Hall for Churachandpur

Representatives of the Unified Zou Organisation (UZO), Zomi Chief Association (ZCA) and the Zomi Council (ZC) met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Babupara on Friday. Chief Minister Singh, along with MLA Tongbram Robindro, welcomed the delegation.

The group, which included leaders from across Churachandpur, discussed concerns related to the State and shared their views on steps needed to restore normal life. The representatives said they assured the Government of their support for efforts aimed at lasting peace in Manipur. They also discussed how to build mutual trust and understanding among different communities.

Proposal for Multi-Utility Hall in Churachandpur

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a proposal seeking the construction of a Multi-Utility Hall in Churachandpur. Chairman of the Zomi Council, Vumsuan Naulak, said the visit was meant to brief the Chief Minister about developments in the district and to help strengthen confidence between communities.

Naulak described the interaction as cordial and constructive. He said the delegation was grateful to the State Government for reaching out and creating opportunities for people to work together for development and lasting peace. He also said they hoped peace would return so that people from all communities could interact freely and contribute collectively to the progress of the State.

First joint trip from Churachandpur to Imphal

The meeting was attended by a 14-member delegation. Among those present were P. Guite, Vice President of the Zomi Chief Association, and Liankhankhup Zou of the Unified Zou Organisation (ZomiCouncil), along with other members of the three organisations. The visit was described as significant because it marked the first time representatives of the three organisations travelled together from Churachandpur to Imphal to meet the Chief Minister.

Chief Minister Singh assured the delegation that the Government remains committed to promoting peace and harmony and to creating an environment that supports normal life. He said the Government would continue to engage with all stakeholders for a peaceful, inclusive and lasting resolution to the prevailing situation. Secretary (Information & Publicity) of the Zomi Council, Mary Jones, said that after nearly three years, they were able to visit Imphal again, calling it an encouraging sign for the restoration of normalcy.
