New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Police rescued two minor girls from Malda district in Siliguri after the children were reported missing from their homes. The girls, aged 12 and 11, were found unharmed following a quick police operation based on intelligence.

Police intercepted the girls near a major bus stop

Police began tracking the bus in real time once the route and destination details were confirmed. The team intercepted the vehicle near Jalpai More and rescued both girls before they could reach the terminus. The children were then brought to the police station, and their family members were informed immediately.

Online gaming contact suspected; digital trail being checked

Investigators said they are most concerned about how the minors appear to have been targeted. Preliminary findings suggest the girls were first contacted through an online gaming platform. Police also stated that the children were allegedly introduced to online sessions in a foreign language, and were enticed with promises that they could be taken abroad.

Police are now focusing on identifying the people who contacted the girls through social media and gaming apps. Officers said they are examining the digital trail, including chat records and the applications used, to understand who made contact and what destination was planned. The investigation is also looking into whether the case is connected to an organised human trafficking network or another criminal conspiracy.

After the rescue, BJP leader and former English Bazar MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury visited the police station and met the girls. Police have handed the children to the relevant investigating team for further legal procedures, including counselling and formal statements. Authorities have reiterated calls for parents and guardians to monitor minors’ online activity and to report missing children or suspicious contacts to the nearest police station.
