Sikkim-set horror film ‘Bokshi’ to release in theatres on October 9

A Sikkim-set horror film titled ‘Bokshi’ is set for a theatrical release in India on October 9. The film comes after an international festival run that began with its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). It has also been selected for screenings at genre festivals outside India, including events in Spain, Switzerland and Australia.

Directed by Mumbai-based Assamese filmmaker Bhargav Saikia, the film is written by Harsh Vaibhav and produced independently by Lorien Motion Pictures. According to a release, the movie was shot across the landscapes of West and East Sikkim over an 80-day schedule covering 2021 and 2022, with support from the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department, Government of Sikkim.

Made with local talent and a multi-language format

The release says ‘Bokshi’ features a cast and crew drawn from Sikkim and nearby regions. The film has also been shown in Sikkim recently, including at the inaugural Sikkim International Film Festival in April 2026, where it screened at PVR West Point Mall, Gangtok.

The story follows Anahita, a troubled teenager whose school trek leads her to a remote prehistoric site. As events unfold, she is pulled into an unsettling mystery linked to an ancient legend, with myth and reality gradually merging.

Fictional language and key cast

‘Bokshi’ is a multilingual film featuring Hindi, English and Nepali, along with a fully developed fictional language called Boksirit. The release notes that a Dutch linguist, Jan van Steenbergen, created Boksirit specifically for the film. The project also stars Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani and Siddharth Shaw in pivotal roles, with Shernaz Patel providing the voice of the titular character.

The crew details shared in the release include cinematography by A. Vasanth and debutant Siddharth Sivasankaran. Editing is credited to Himanshu Saikia, sound design to Dhiman Karmakar, and music to Advait Nemlekar.
