J.P. Nadda visits flood-hit areas in Sivasagar and Charaideo to review relief and rehabilitation

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda visited flood-ravaged areas of Sivasagar and Charaideo districts to assess the situation on the ground and meet families affected by the recent floods in Upper Assam. He reached Dibrugarh on Tuesday and stayed overnight there before starting his on-site review on Wednesday.
With Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nadda visited the Nepali Khuti area and also met people impacted by the flooding. During the visit, he travelled by tractor to reach marooned villages, where relief and rehabilitation needs were reviewed together with local officials and residents.
Review of damage and living conditions
In the affected areas, Nadda assessed damage and took stock of living conditions at flood-affected relief camps. He also reviewed losses reported by families, including damage to homes, agricultural land and livestock, along with impacts on public infrastructure in the worst-hit pockets.
Speaking to reporters, Nadda said the Centre is extending full financial assistance to Assam. He also stated that central teams are already assessing the scale of damage caused by the floods. The visit covered areas identified as among the hardest hit, including Bihubor and Nepali Khuti.
Focus on public health preparedness and medical services
The visit is part of Nadda’s three-day tour of Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh from August 4 to 6. Beyond reviewing the flood situation, he is expected to look into public health preparedness, disease surveillance, medical relief measures and efforts to restore healthcare services in flood-affected districts.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Nadda, who is on the ground to assess the impact of the Assam floods, has assured Centre-led support for handling the crisis and rehabilitation. According to the state government, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team has also carried out an assessment of damages. Nadda’s tour includes further engagements in Nagaland’s Mon district and then a final-day review of the healthcare situation in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district.
