Manipur’s Ariha Pangambam wins India’s first individual Gold at Asian Aerobic Gymnastics

Ariha Pangambam from Manipur has made history at the 2026 Senior Women’s Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tagaytay City, Philippines. The 22-year-old gymnast became the first Indian to win an individual Gold medal at the event, after a performance that earned her 19.10 points.

India’s maiden individual Gold in the senior women’s aerobic category came after a strong routine in the final. Earlier, she had finished fourth in a previous attempt, narrowly missing the podium. Her latest result marks a clear comeback on the international stage.

A comeback with a standout final score

According to the report, Pangambam’s winning performance combined difficulty with execution and artistry. She clinched the top spot in the individual women’s section, lifting the moment into a landmark achievement for Manipur’s sporting record and for Indian gymnastics in the region.

Her rise also reflects earlier success at home. In 2025, Pangambam won Gold in individual aerobic at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand. That national win set the stage for her return to major competitions at a higher level, where she has now delivered the first individual continental Gold for India.

Support and congratulations from Manipur leaders

After the victory, congratulations came from across the country. In Manipur, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh described the win as a proud moment for both Manipur and India and said Pangambam’s achievement should inspire future generations. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also congratulated her, calling the result a historic milestone for Indian gymnastics.

Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh extended his best wishes as well, praising Pangambam’s effort and perseverance. The report also highlights that the Governor congratulated her coach for guidance that helped shape her performance.
