Medhavi Skills University holds orientation as Sikkim Police lead ‘Building Bonds’ session
Medhavi Skills University welcomed its new batch with Prarambh, an orientation programme that included a police-led ‘Building Bonds’ session for students on law
Medhavi Skills University Sikkim welcomed its new batch for the academic year 2026 through an orientation programme called Prarambh at Manan Kendra in Gangtok on Wednesday. The event focused on helping students begin their university journey with guidance from officials and community partners.
The main highlight was a community policing session titled Building Bonds, led by the Sikkim Police. Director General of Police (DGP) Akshay Sachdeva conducted an interactive session that included roleplay. Sikkim Police officials across ranks, along with university faculty and students, took part in the programme.
Police session on law, safety and cyber risks
During the session, the police team discussed several areas of public interest. The programme touched on criminal laws such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023. It also covered POCSO and crimes against women and children.
The session also addressed emerging online risks. Students were briefed on cyber and AI-related crimes, police helpline use, and scams such as digital arrest fraud. Topics included sextortion, cyber love scams, and drug abuse.
Students urged to follow discipline and act responsibly
DSP Mingyur Tempo Nadik spoke to the students on discipline and responsible citizenship. He encouraged students to maintain self-control, respect time, honour commitments and stay accountable for their actions. Nadik also urged students to use their education to contribute positively to society and to avoid substance abuse, violence, and misuse of technology.
Additional Superintendent of Police Prawin Lamichaney explained the idea of community policing, saying that safer environments are built when police and citizens work together. Gangtok SHO Niraj Khatiwada also said an MoU was signed in 2025 between the university and Sikkim Police, focusing on scholarships for families of police personnel and opportunities for quality education and skills development.
The programme was organised to give new students an orientation each year by inviting distinguished personalities. It concluded with interactive sessions and cultural presentations.
