Meghalaya rolls out digital early learning support for Anganwadi Centres

Meghalaya has launched an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme to strengthen early learning through Anganwadi Centres across the state. The initiative was introduced by the Meghalaya Early Childhood Development Mission (MECDM) under the Social Welfare Department.
Launched on Wednesday, the programme included an orientation and launch session with key Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) stakeholders. The meeting brought together District Programme Officers, Child Development Project Officers, Lady Supervisors, and partner organisations involved in early childhood services.
Digital content will reach Anganwadi workers via WhatsApp
The programme focuses on improving early childhood education and supporting play-based learning at Anganwadi Centres. Under the scheme, Anganwadi workers will get digital content and training resources through WhatsApp. The materials are described as curriculum-aligned, localised, and developed in local languages to reflect Meghalaya’s cultural and linguistic context.
The session also highlighted the role of Anganwadi workers and Lady Supervisors in implementing ECCE activities. The approach is intended to help workers conduct age-appropriate learning with children through activities linked to early education goals.
Partnership also targets training infrastructure
During the launch, Meghalaya Development Commissioner and Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar asked Rocket Learning to consider a broader role in addressing ECCE challenges in the state. This includes revamping Cluster Learning Labs, which function as in-person training spaces for Anganwadi workers.
Officials said the success of the programme will depend on support and ownership across different levels of the ICDS system. Social Welfare Department Director Saloni Verma said implementation will be strengthened through the work of DPOs, CDPOs, and Lady Supervisors. MECDM Chief Operating Officer Ronald Kynta added that the partnership aims to bridge gaps in ECCE by providing practical tools, training, and recognition so Anganwadi Centres can become more active spaces for early learning.
