Medhavi Skills University (MSU) inaugurated Prarambh-2026, its foundation programme for the incoming 2026 batch, at Manan Kendra in Gangtok. The event was held with senior officials and experts from different fields, including leadership from Sikkim Police and the Sashastra Seema Bal, along with university dignitaries and students.
The programme began with an interactive session titled “Building Bonds”. Director General of Police, Sikkim Police, Akshay Sachdeva, who attended as the chief guest, addressed students on social issues such as substance abuse and illegal drug distribution. He also spoke about crimes against women and children and the risk of cybercrime, linking these concerns to the role of responsible citizenship.
Legal awareness and community policing session
During the session, Sachdeva explained key legal frameworks that guide law enforcement in India. The discussion covered the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the POCSO Act, the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA), and the NDPS Act. He urged students to learn and practise the values needed for community safety and progress.
Deputy Inspector General of the Sashastra Seema Bal, Sector Headquarters, A Hemochandra, attended as the guest of honour. He spoke about the force’s history and mandate and praised MSU for combining formal degree and diploma programmes with vocational training. Hemochandra highlighted the Knowledge, Skill and Attitude (KSA) framework as a way to strengthen training and professional growth.
Focus on skilling for work and agriculture
Dr Shankar Prasad Das of ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids outlined how agricultural research and education support areas such as agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences. He encouraged continuous upskilling so professionals can adapt to changing needs in agriculture and related sectors, and he described skill development as a path toward self-reliance.
MSU Founder and Chancellor Pravesh Dudani explained the university’s vision of pairing academic qualifications with practical skills and the right attitude. Pro-Chancellor and Co-Founder Kuldip Sharma described MSU’s approach of linking curricula with industry and including on-the-job training within its three-year degree programmes. The event also included cultural performances, a briefing on on-the-job learning components, student experience-sharing, details of university clubs and societies, and activities under the National Service Scheme (NSS). It concluded with a band performance by MSU students.
