Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir raises proposals in Parliament to expand infrastructure and medical facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences,
Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir has urged the Union government to strengthen the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie, Peren district. Jamir raised the issue during Zero Hour in Parliament and requested support from the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
The college, which functions as a constituent institution of the Central Agricultural University, serves students from across the country, according to the proposal presented in Parliament. Jamir said the upgrades would help both teaching and research work, and also improve veterinary services linked to animal health.
Proposed projects include clinical complex and better diagnostics
Jamir’s submissions focus on key developmental works at the Jalukie campus. One of the main proposals is the construction of a Veterinary Clinical Complex. He also called for the upgradation of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostic (VLD) facilities to support accurate and efficient diagnosis of animal diseases.
In addition, Jamir urged the ministry to approve initiatives such as veterinary telemedicine. He also requested support for mobile animal health initiatives, aimed at reaching farmers and livestock owners more effectively beyond the campus. The MP said these steps would strengthen the way veterinary education is delivered and would improve the quality of animal healthcare services.
Link to livestock sector and rural livelihoods
Jamir said the proposals should be given priority because they would build capacity in the livestock sector. He argued that stronger veterinary education and improved animal health support livestock productivity, which can have wider benefits for food security and rural employment.
According to the details raised in Parliament, the MP asked the Centre to sanction the projects as part of national development priorities for agriculture and allied sectors. The request seeks targeted investment in infrastructure, laboratory capability, and wider outreach through modern veterinary support methods.
