Imphal is gearing up for the 135th Durand Cup, with the Indian Army hosting a media interaction to brief journalists on the upcoming tournament and the arrangements for its conduct. Senior Indian Army officials discussed the tournament schedule, venue readiness, and coordination with the Manipur government and other stakeholders.
The briefings also covered participating teams and the overall plan for a smooth event. Officials highlighted the tournament’s long-running legacy as the oldest football competition in India, organised by the Armed Forces, and noted its focus on sporting excellence, discipline, teamwork, and national integration.

Fixtures for the Imphal leg
For the Imphal leg, matches will feature FC Raengdai, the Indian Navy Football Team (INFT), NEROCA FC, and TRAU FC. Games are set to begin on July 28, 2026, at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. The Indian Army said preparations are in progress to support regular match operations at the venue.
Officials further pointed to security and coordination measures. The media interaction stressed close work between civil authorities, security agencies, and event organisers to ensure the tournament runs without disruptions and with proper arrangements for visitors.
Trophy tour and a women’s exhibition match
Alongside the match schedule, the Army outlined additional events planned in Imphal. The Durand Cup Trophy Tour and Showcase is scheduled for July 15, and a women’s exhibition match will be held on July 21 at the SAI Football Ground. The Army also invited football enthusiasts, families, and sports lovers to attend the matches and the related events.
The interaction concluded with a reception hosted by the Indian Army, giving journalists and officials a chance to meet ahead of the tournament. With the Imphal leg set to start on July 28, the focus now remains on final preparations for teams, venues, and match-day operations.
