Nagaland signs MoU to relocate SAI Training Centre to Dimapur sports complex
Nagaland government and Sports Authority of India signed an MoU to relocate the SAI Training Centre to the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex in Dimapur, aiming.
Nagaland’s government and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to relocate the SAI Training Centre to the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex (MDSC) in Dimapur. The MoU was signed during an event held at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex in Kohima.
SAI Training Centre to move to the MDSC in Dimapur
The Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, said the agreement marks a new step for the state’s sports development. He noted that the relocation is the result of long efforts to strengthen Nagaland’s sports ecosystem and to open wider opportunities for young athletes.
Rio added that once the new training centre becomes operational, athletes are expected to get support in areas such as quality coaching, residential facilities, and scientific support systems. He also said this will benefit sports growth not only in Nagaland but across the wider Northeast region.
Focus on infrastructure and long-term support
Speaking at the same programme, Rio expressed satisfaction with SAI infrastructure work already underway at the MDSC. He said the state has continued investing in sports infrastructure and related areas like sports science, grassroots competitions, athlete welfare, and capacity building. He also referred to the inauguration of sports infrastructure projects and said more work is planned.SAI Deputy Director General Majushree Dayanand described the MoU as an important step in the partnership between SAI and the Nagaland government. She said the state’s support in providing a venue will help in setting up a Centre of Excellence. She also urged sustained attention to local talent, adding that sports can become a viable career option for young people.
Earlier, Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports S. Keoshu Yimkhiung said the move reflects the government’s commitment to building a stronger sporting culture. He said relocation to the MDSC should improve opportunities for athletes to train and compete at higher levels.
