Two students from Nagaland University have completed the Hiroshima Orizuru Fellowship Summer Course on Peace and Sustainability in Japan. The university said the programme was supported by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) and selected the participants to represent the institution at an international course.
The fellowship participants are Repakaba Tzüdir, a PhD scholar in the Department of Sociology, and Impolong Changkiri, a postgraduate student in the Department of Psychology. Nagaland University’s selected scholars took part in a programme organised by Hiroshima University, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and Columbia University.
10-day course at Hiroshima University campus
The course ran for 10 days from July 28 to August 6 at Hiroshima University’s Higashi-Hiroshima Campus. It was conducted under the Hiroshima Orizuru Fellow Initiative. The theme of the training was “Clinic on Conflict and Collaboration in Natural Resource Management – Advancing Positive Peace and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
As part of the summer course, the two scholars joined learning activities that included expert lectures and workshops. The programme also included policy dialogue sessions and field-based research. According to Nagaland University, these sessions were designed to help the students build a stronger understanding of environmental conflicts, peacebuilding, and sustainable management of resources.
Focus on interdisciplinary learning and research exchange
Nagaland University said the fellowship brought together young researchers from different countries for interdisciplinary learning and academic exchange. During the course, the participants also took part in collaborative research activities aimed at supporting evidence-based policy development.
The university added that the successful completion of the fellowship reflects its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement. It said the experience is expected to strengthen Nagaland University’s international academic linkages and encourage more students and researchers to pursue global learning and collaboration opportunities.
