TNA Alumni Association begins 100-year centennial celebrations with Meet and Greet in Gangtok
Tashi Namgyal Academy Alumni Association launches year-long centennial plans for the academy’s 100 years, including meet and greet, logo and medallion unveiling
The Tashi Namgyal Academy (TNA) Alumni Association officially launched its centennial celebrations in Gangtok on Sunday, marking 100 years of the academy. The programme brought together patrons, alumni, representatives of sister schools, and other distinguished guests. It set the tone for a year-long series of events focused on the school’s legacy and future goals.
Logo, medallion and founder’s statue unveiled
Guests were welcomed in the traditional Sikkimese style, including the presentation of khadas by the alumni association. The gathering included representatives from Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Paljor Namgyal Girls Senior Secondary School, and St. Joseph’s Girls School, Kalimpong. After a welcome address by TNA Alumni Association president Gary Chopel, the association unveiled the official centennial logo and a commemorative medallion.
As part of the key moments, patrons MLAs Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, Pamin Lepcha, and Aditya Golay, along with the alumni association president, unveiled a design of a life-size statue of the school’s founder, Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal. Alumni and guests reacted emotionally to the reveal. The programme also highlighted the academy’s origin, founded in 1926 by Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal, the 11th Chogyal of Sikkim, with an aim to provide education to children of Sikkim without asking them to travel outside the state.
The evening also included details of a centennial raffle campaign presented by the vice president of the alumni association, Remon Chetri. The session covered the prize structure and how alumni participation and volunteering would be supported. Sports secretary Tseten Bhutia then shared plans for sports and carnival activities scheduled for September and October.
Sports events, unity run and cultural programmes planned
The calendar includes events such as September Alumni Games, an Inter-Alumni Football Championship, and an Alumni Unity Run, along with a grand carnival, musical performances, cultural programmes, and alumni recognition and awards at the TNA campus. TNA director Brigadier Mothi George Jacob (Retd.) offered support for the celebrations and welcomed the association’s plan to hold multiple events on campus. The keynote address was delivered by alumni association patron Aditya Golay on the theme of celebrating 100 years of excellence and inspiring the future.
The programme ended with an open-house session where alumni shared suggestions on chapter participation, volunteer registration, sponsorship opportunities, centennial committees, and other initiatives planned for the year. Organisers said the Meet and Greet marked the start of an eventful year for the TNA alumni community.
